A Shore Thing

Yes!  Nautical Puns are back! I made a quick skirt from this adorable shark print fabric by Dear Stella and it is so sweet.  Wave prints seem to be all the rage this summer, why not add a few sea animals to the mix?  This is the second of my summer sewing projects though pics of my first skirt are still yet to be posted, and I'm happy to announce that I just finished a sundress with a nautical print too.  I may not get much more sewing done this summer, but I love this skirt and can't wait to wear it around.  I made it a little shorter than my usual length, which wasn't really intentional, but hey, it's almost summer and it's already hot.  I don't mind lightening up a bit.

Wildflowers

Before I go out to photograph a an outfit, I try to think of the perfect location.  Being among the wildflowers just seemed right for this Penelope Dress in Wildflower print from KarinaDresses.  With the weather heating up so quickly to remind me that summer will be early this year, I thought I'd better get out and enjoy some time in the spring flowers while they last.  I adore this dress.  Not only is it perfect for summer, but it fits like a dream and looks great on so many body types, but it also has pockets!  Every dress and skirt in existence should have them, but especially summer dresses.  Who wants to carry around a bulky purse in the summer?  Not this girl.  But, I wouldn't mind having a few more dresses like this one.

Good Memories, Happy Moments

Two pieces of childhood reminiscence for this post.  First, did you ever read anything by Eloise Wilkins when you were a kid?  I'll bet you did and if you're like me you adored her illustrations.  As a child I probably noticed the children more, but as an adult and a mother I loved her drawings of women.  They look so stylish even doing housework, and they're all usually wearing the same skirt, button down blouse and sensible flats combo.  I wouldn't mind making that my housework uniform, but I like it even more at the office.  I love how put together and classy it is even though it's comfortable and didn't take much thought at all.  I bought this skirt as part of a Sweet Breeze two-piece set from ChicWish last summer (it's still in stock by the way).  I can't believe I haven't thought of wearing it this way before!   This outfit's for you Ms. Wilkins.  Thanks for the inspiration and for the hours spent cuddled up with my babies reading your books.
The second bit of revelry comes from a stop at my local grocery store where I saw Clearly Canadian!  I nearly jumped for joy in the store and did a little happy dance once I was out of the store.  When I was 10 years old  I discovered Clearly Canadian and it was my go to drink.  I got all my friends hooked and we each bought a flavor to bring to sleepovers that endless summer.  When they discontinued it, I tried a few of the knock-offs that flooded the market, but they weren't the same.  And as a final parting gift, my mother bought me two cases of CC which I hid under my bed, shared with no one and managed to make last for two years.
Things I love about CC:  It comes in glass bottles, not plastic.  It has real sugar not aspartame or any of that other junk like the knock offs, and it was the first brand that I'd ever seen to have flavors like raspberry, blackberry, and peach instead of the standard flavors of cherry, grape, and strawberry.  I took my CC to a quiet place to enjoy the first drink alone and after a long, swishy, savored sip, I capped it and saved the rest to share with my girls who've heard the stories about that slumber party summer and this special drink a hundred times or more.  Who knows, maybe this will be our Girl-time Summer with make overs, musicals, cookie dough, and Clearly Canadian will become our thing too.

Library Foxes

Soooo, it's the end of the day, you know, the time I rarely do photos because I'm tired and it shows.  Also, I've been at work all day, so I'm not feeling my most fabulous, but I do love this dress and I'm wearing it a new way.  This time I've added tights and a cardi since it was particularly breezy and cool today.  It's handmade by yours truly and those heavily pleated sleeves made it a labor of love.  I'm stopping by the library because I'm on the hunt for a particular book called French Women Don't Get Facelifts by Mireille Guiliano. I browsed her previous book French Women Don't Get Fat years ago and enjoyed some of the advice she had to offer.  In a few weeks I'll be posting some thoughts on this book and just on life and culture in general.  If that's not your bag, feel free to skip over it.  I'll be back with more outfit pics the day after that.

Sea Breezes

Wearing my Audrey Sea Side dress again today.  I just adore this color!  And the cut makes it the perfect summer dress.  Today, I paired it with a butter yellow cardi since I have no fields of buttercups to wander through.

Wear the Garden

Love a good garden party?  Me too!  I like it even better when I get to be the hostess.  Yes, we have tea and delicate cookies, cakes and sandwiches, and it doesn't happen nearly enough.  I originally bought this dress, whose name escapes me, as a Christmas party dress, but with a pastel cardi, I think I'm ready for whatever fancy gathering this season has to throw at me.
