Ree & Me

I've never really been on a girls' weekend, but catching up with old friends over dinner led to a revelation of our shared love of all things made by Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond.  Someone suggested a trip and plans were tentatively made.  Often someone will cancel at the last minute, but this time everything worked out and after a wonderful night of girl talk, Mexican food, an amazing bottle of Villa Jolanda coconut moscato, we were on our way to a town I never thought to visit--Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
Even though we arrived at the cafe at 8:15 a.m., we spent an hour waiting in line.  Breakfast was a wonderful, rich southern meal with biscuits, bacon, eggs, and gravy on the side.  So, good!  Then we spent some time browsing The Mercantile and buying a few pastries from the bakery upstairs.  While I wish there had been a little more to do on the way, it was a wonderful scenic drive with hardly another car in site for several hours of the trip, and best of all it was the perfect day with friends.
I picked up souvenirs for everyone I'd left at home for the weekend, and for myself I grabbed a strand of these lovely turquoise beads that all the ladies in the shop were wearing.  They are well made, and I have already worn them with several outfits and I am planning a second trip this summer with other friends who heard about my trip and were a little angry that they'd been left out.   I know it's only spring, but my summer is shaping up nicely already.
Since I'm in an old mercantile kind of mood, I decided to visit the one nearest my home.  It's full of flea markets and antique stores now, but they've remained favorites and are one of the first places I visited when I got back to the States.  If it were possible for me to buy one of these old buildings I'd restore it and make it into a working mercantile too.
