Oxidized Medallion Dress: ootd

This is one of those dresses that I like, but have no explanation as to why I like it.  I think the print is rather ugly.  The colors aren't my favorite.  Also, I'm not a fan of anything strapless, because I've got better things to do than publicly disgrace myself with a wardrobe malfunction.  And yet..., every time I came across one on a resale site I'd add it to my watch list.  I'd go back to it every now and again and think, "do I really like this dress?"  The answer was a consistent and rather baffling yes.
When this odd little beauty turned up on ThredUp for $20 I decided it was finally time.  The dress arrived after about a month lost in transit and at first sight of it I had to wonder what I was thinking.  For some reason I had imagined it as a heavy cotton fabric fit for walks in the woods and eventually summer days on a farm.  But, no, this dress had the look and feel of tired bathing suit material.
I was disappointed and really feeling the buyer's remorse that is until I put it on.  In spite of its print, chintzy nylon fabric, and lack of shoulder straps, once  I looked in the mirror I was ecstatic.  I still don't know why I like this dress so much.  There is a richness to the colors that make my skin and hair look great, and the full skirt is great for a twirl.  I guess that's enough for me.
